Elbow Pain
The elbow joint is commonly affected by sport and work related overuse. Tennis Elbow is one of the most common conditions arising from such overuse. Weakness of the core and larger arm and leg muscles are often at the root of the elbow overuse. The pain can come from osteoarthritis, overused tendons and nerves that run through the elbow and are susceptible to chronic stress.
Diagnostic Tools:
A thorough examination is conducted on every patient. Our osteopathic training allows us to diagnose small subluxation of the elbow joints that can be a source of a previously undiagnosed sources of pain. Gentle manipulation of these joints is frequently performed during examination for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Structural deficits, restrictions, as well as muscle weakness and imbalances are identified.
X-rays and state of the art ultrasound technology are used for diagnosis of structural elbow and forearm problems. High resolution ultrasound imaging is advanced enough to see “Tennis Elbow” related tendon injury, bursitis and joint swelling that can be a cause of acute and chronic elbow pain. Advanced imaging techniques such as MRI can be used for further assessment.
Treatment Tools:
Ultrasound guided injection techniques can relieve elbow joint related pain. The injections can consist of steroids. PRP (platelet rich plasma) through an ultrasound-guided injection is a new, promising technique that seeks to promote joint cartilage regeneration.
